New FlyQuest LCS roster is scary

After the LEC offseason has died down, it’s time for the LCS to take the spotlight. Flyquest has new owners and management, willing to break the bank heading into the 2023 season.

FlyQuest spend big on their LCS roster

Budgeted rosters and young developing players is all Flyquest fans have known for the past few years. Ever since that miraculous 2020 run to the World Championship, the team has been treading in mediocrity. Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Wesley Edens and Fortress Investment Group officially gave up on their investment two months ago. Now, with new owners in charge, it’s time to start winning. The Viola family, owners of the NFL’s Florida Panthers, purchased Flyquest in September 2022.

The greatest top laner in LCS history and former World Champion, Impact, is joining Flyquest for the 2023 season. This is the first major move new Flyquest ownership is making, but certainly not the last. Reports say that Team Liquid showed strong interest in reuniting with the Korean player, but in the end, Impact chose Flyquest. Impact joined the LCS in 2015, after winning the World Championship with SKT T1. Since then he’s won 5 LCS Championships, representing Cloud9, Team Liquid, and Evil Geniuses. Apart from bringing irreplaceable experience and expertise, Impact also holds American citizenship, making him an attractive target for any team looking to import players.

Korean imports in the LCS

And importing is something Flyquest reportedly plan on doing. Sources say that mid-laner Lee “VicLa” Dae-kwang is joining the LCS roster. He had an amazing second half of the year, claiming the Rookie of the Year award. He performed like the third-best mid-laner in the LCK as a rookie after subbing in for KT Rolster, dragging his team to the fifth seed in the playoffs after a 3-5 start. But reports say that something even bigger is brewing in the bot lane. Travis Gafford reported that there is a 90% chance Teddy, Ruler, or Deokdam will join Flyquest this offseason. Regardless of who of the three they sign, Flyquest is a major threat with this roster. Picking up the most promising young Korean mid is a step in the right direction. Adding a top 5 LCK ADC in the same offseason is a recipe for a contender.

Spica and Eyla round out FlyQuest roster

After two reported imports, Flyquest is rounding out with the best possible options that have American residency. Support Eyla had two great years on Team Liquid Academy, winning multiple splits and events and making his LCS debut. His experience alongside Hans Sama has made him the most LCS-ready prospect. And he doesn’t take up an import slot, since the OCE region dissolved and those players are now counted as USA residents.

Reports say that Flyquest have won the bidding war against 100 Thieves, securing Spica’s services for the upcoming season. Spica is coming off two forgettable seasons with TSM, in which controversies were aplenty instead of wins. He showed great potential during his rookie year, and the hope is that a change of scenery is all he needs.
